To say the past few months have been crazy, would certainly be an understatement. I suppose having three young children will certainly make your life crazy, but I wouldn't have it any other way! :)
Christmas will certainly be a memorable one for the books this past year. Leela developed hand, foot and mouth the week before winter break and then generously gave it to her brothers just in time for Christmas. She really didn't have too many spots and did pretty well with sleeping. The boys, however, really, really had a hard time. They got a million spots on their hands and feet with some around their mouth and few random ones on the legs. Poor Kai got it the worst and even had spot on his mouth and it ended up swelling. :( The boys didn't sleep for about three nights and I mean didn't sleep! They were so uncomfortable and meds didn't really help things at all. :( Derek and I took shifts sleeping in their room and caring for them at night. Derek and I went to different Christmas services--totally different experience without the family, especially on Christmas! Thank goodness family lives in town so we could do celebrations later. Derek was able to stop over at his parents when the entire family celebrated and Leela and I were able to go to my parents celebration. The next week we went back over to each house with the kids. While it's gone for now, I guess there are about eight different strands so they can certainly get it again some day. Let's hope not any time soon. While it was a VERY hard time for Derek and I and the kids, we are just so thankful this all happened before Amelia arrived. That would have been a mess! :)
Grayson has been playing in a basketball league on Saturdays. It's for ages 3-5 so there's quite a variety. Some know what they are doing and then half the team is crying because they don't want to play and end up leaving early. It's entertaining for sure! :) The last few weeks are "games", which is fun to watch and another level of entertainment! Grayson is still figuring it out, but he's getting the hang of it and most importantly, having fun. :) "Coach Kai" has a hard time sitting on the bleachers watching...I think he would like to be on the team too! It's a good lesson for him. :)
We had Grayson's birthday party in January so that we wouldn't miss the fun with Amelia's arrival. He wanted a "Doctor Who" party again and it turned out pretty easy for this mom! :) He informed me that for his real birthday, he would like a Star Wars party. I kindly responded with "You only get ONE party". I don't think he liked that response, :) I imagine on his birthday, he's going to be asking when everyone is coming over for the party. :) We did save some cake so we'll pull that out of the freezer when his special day comes. He has all his presents from us to open so hopefully he will be excited to get two celebrations out of the deal! :)
We are trying to figure out what's going on with Kai and his ears. He failed the school hearing test in November. He had been sick so the nurse said she would test again in December. Unfortunately, he failed again! So we started him on allergy meds and a nasal spray per the doctor and school nurses's orders. He had to take them until the first real frost, which was over winter break. The nurse tested him again once he came back to school and he still didn't pass. He still had a little fluid in his left ear. She told us to take the meds again for two weeks and she would test again. Well, she called this past week and he passed the hearing section, but not the tympanometric section. So, we are scheduled to see an EN&T doctor in a few weeks for further investigating. Hopefully it's nothing and can be a quick fix!
We have Grayson enrolled in preschool for next year. He is going to St. Paul, where Kai went. They are pretty sure they still have a few morning openings, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that works out. He will go every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and will have the same fabulous teacher, Mrs. Joyce, that Kai did! He was excited to check out the classroom and play with the toys that Kai was telling him all about at enrollment. We are excited for him!
Leela and Grayson have both started their winter storytimes and are enjoying them. Derek has taken them so I haven't seen them in action yet, but I'm hoping to go some time. I guess Leela is a little shy in her class. I remember Grayson being the same way too when he was her age.
Leela is FINALLY working on her last two molars. One is almost through and the other one has started. Would be so nice if she could finish up before Amelia, but I won't be too picky at this point. If she would just stay healthy, I'll take that instead. :) I'm just excited the teething process is almost over for her--she's been the hardest one by far!
Out latest excitement is stomach flu. :) Yep, fun times around here--I'd stay clear if I were you! Poor Grayson started and then Leela and Derek followed. It took the boys a week to recover and Leela took a little less time. I thought I had hit my max on laundry with hand, foot and mouth, but this was a whole new level. :) Keeping my fingers crossed that Kai and I don't get it, but I think (hopefully!) we are in the clear! I don't have time for puking. :) Just happy this happened before Miss Amelia came too! :)
Speaking of, Miss Amelia is showing NO interest in making her grand entrance! I'm ok with that now since we are still trying to get everyone back to 100%. She must know that and is just trying to be obedient. :) Star child already! Still a few days until her official due date, so she'll be coming soon, I'm sure. I secretly hope she can wait until after Tuesday morning so that I can still help out at Kai's Valentine party. :) I'm as ready as I can be, so we'll just wait and see what she does!!!
Thanks for reading and sorry it took so long for a post. I figured I better hurry and get something on here soon before life gets a little crazier! :) Enjoy the pics!
